Kallan Henry Lodge was raised in Newcastle, New South Wales, where he attended Jewells Primary School and Belmont High School. He was involved with various sporting clubs including soccer, basketball, swimming, touch football and rugby league. He was a member of the Young People's Theatre Newcastle, had a passion for drama and enjoyed listening to an eclectic array of music.

Kallan joined the Australian Defence Force Academy (ADFA) in 2008, graduating in 2010 with a Bachelor of Science (Physics Major) before joining the Royal Military College (RMC) at Duntroon to become a helicopter pilot in the Australian Army. Kallan died by suicide at RMC Duntroon on 08 March 2011, aged 21 years.

The Kallan Lodge Library was founded ten years later when Ashleigh Webb called Geoff and Jillian Lodge to convey the positive and enduring impact their son's life had had on her own. Together they form the Kallan Lodge Library Board of Director's, along with Christopher Hills and Lyn Webb, working to promote safe and productive sharing of lived experience, to increase the national conversation on mental wellbeing maintenance.
